RICHMOND, Va. (December 4, 2017) – UNCW sophomore Timber Tate was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Drexel University freshman Hannah Nihill picked up CAA Rookie of the Week honors.

Guard Timber Tate averaged 18.0 points per game while shooting a blistering 63.2 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from long range as UNCW ran its record to 5-3 with a pair of wins over VCU and N.C. Central last week. Tate also added 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest as she went 12-for-19 from the field, including a 10-for-14 mark from beyond the arc. The sharpshooting sophomore eclipsed her career high in both games, scoring 16 points against the Rams on Wednesday before a 20-point outburst in Sunday's victory over the Eagles. Tate, who has posted three double-digit scoring efforts this season, has started all eight games and is averaging 9.9 points per contest.

Freshman Hannah Nihill averaged 8.0 points, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game as Drexel went 2-0 against Lafayette and Delaware State. Nihill went 6-for-11 (.545) from the field, including a 4-for-5 effort from long range. The guard scored a season-high 13 points in the win over Lafayette along with six steals, the most by any Dragon this season.
 
 

#CAAHoops – The Week that Was
 
Charleston (2-5): The Cougars captured their lone game of the week, edging Sun Belt foe Coastal Carolina, 72-70, on the road. Deja Ford sank two free throws with 0.3 seconds to seal the win and snap CofC’s five-game skid. Myrtle Beach native Tanisha Brown had a huge game in front of her hometown crowd finishing with a career-high 25 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Delaware (4-4): The Blue Hens split a pair of road games, notching a one-point victory at St. Bonaventure before falling at Princeton. Junior Nicole Enabosi averaged a double-double for the week with 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. She leads the league with six double-doubles this season.
 
Drexel (5-3): The Dragons went 2-0 last week with victories over Lafayette and Delaware State. Senior Kelsi Lidge averaged 12.0 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game, including her first career double-double (17pts, 10reb) at Delaware State. Rookie Hannah Nihill had a solid week, averaging 8.0 points, 3.0 steals and 3.0 rebounds per game.
 
Elon (6-2): The Phoenix split games, scoring 106 points in the win over Coke before being edged at Wake Forest. Senior Meme Garner played well for the Phoenix, averaging 16.5 points and shooting 65.0 percent (13-for-20) from the field. Against Coker, Shay Burnett recorded Elon’s first-ever triple-double (10pts, 11reb, 10asts). Senior Malaya Johnson recorded her 900th career point against Wake Forest and is 99 points away from becoming the 24th player in Elon history to reach 1,000 career points.
 
Hofstra (4-3): The Pride was victorious in their lone game of the week, topping Sacred Heart, 86-81, in double overtime. Senior Ashunae Durant had 23 points and 12 rebounds, tied a career-high with six assists and went 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Sophomore E’Lexus Davis scored a career-high 19 points, including nine in the second extra frame,
 
James Madison (2-5): The Dukes led No. 13 Florida State at halftime, but the Seminoles overcame the deficit and held off JMU’s late comeback to thwart an upset in Harrisonburg. JMU outrebounded FSU, 40-38, the first time a team has done so against the undefeated Seminoles this season. Sophomore Kamiah Smalls reached double figures for the seventh straight game with 16 points while redshirt sophomore Kelly Koshuta reached double figures for the fifth time in seven games with a team-best 19 points.
 
UNCW (5-3): The Seahawks went 2-0 last week and remained undefeated at home with wins over VCU and NC Central. Sophomore Timber Tate averaged 18.0 points per game while shooting 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the field. Sophomore Lacey Suggs averaged 20.5 minutes off the bench and delivered 17.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest.
 
Northeastern (3-4): The Huskies dropped their only game of the week at New Hampshire. Juniors Jess Genco and Gabby Giancone combined for 28 points with Genco netting 12 and Giacone posting 16 points. Rookie Stella Clark got the starting nod, posting nine points, including her 100th of the season.
 
Towson (2-4): The Tigers picked up a win over Wagner at SECU Arena in their only game of the week. Senior Mary Cuevas did a little bit of everything for Towson, notching a career-high 23 points and adding 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double. She was an impressive 8-for-11 from the floor and added three blocked shots, two steals and an assist.
 
William & Mary (7-1): The Tribe went 3-0 last week to push their winning streak to five games. Junior Bianca Boggs led the Tribe by averaging 18.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists. She capped off the week with 33 points in the victory at St. Francis (Pa.) for the league’s first 30-point game of the season. Senior Abby Rendle posted 14 blocks on the week, breaking the William & Mary program record and moving into second place all-time in CAA history. With 266 career blocks, she’s approaching Elena Delle Donne’s record of 273.
