CAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - WEEKLY REPORT (FEB. 23)

RICHMOND, Va. (February 23, 2015) – Hofstra University’s Anjie White and Drexel University’s Jackie Schluth were named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Basketball Players of the Week while the Hofstra’s Ashunae Durant and Elon University’s Shay Burnett shared CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Anjie White • Hofstra University
Redshirt Sophomore | Forward | Newark, Del./Sanford School
Redshirt sophomore forward Anjie White averaged 14.0 points on 52.6 percent shooting and 6.0 rebounds per game to help Hofstra to a 2-0 week. In the win over nationally-ranked James Madison, White put the Pride ahead to stay by sinking a pair of tie-breaking free throws with 40 seconds left. She finished the game with 13 points, including a perfect 5-for-5 effort at the free throw line, and four rebounds. White began the week with 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting, and eight rebounds in the win at Towson.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jackie Schluth • Drexel University
Senior | Forward | Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace
Senior Jackie Schluth averaged 17.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game to lead Drexel to a pair of road wins. The forward also shot 60 percent (15-for-25) for the week. At the College of Charleston, Schluth matched a career high with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting while adding nine rebounds, two assists, and a block. She followed that up with 16 points, five rebounds, and two steals at Delaware.
 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Ashunae Durant • Hofstra University
Freshman | Forward | Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech
Forward Ashunae Durant came off the bench to average 12.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 23.5 minutes in Hofstra’s 2-0 week. Durant, who has scored in double figures in nine straight games, began the week with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting against Towson. In the win over nationally-ranked James Madison, Durant tallied 12 points, six rebounds, and two blocks. She hit a pair of crucial free throws down the stretch to help seal the win. Durant has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week six times and the CAA Player of the Week once this season.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Shay Burnett • Elon University
Freshman | Guard | Graham, N.C./Southern Alamance
Shay Burnett averaged 11.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists to help Elon to a 2-0 week. The rookie shot 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from the floor in her two starts. At Northeastern, Burnett tallied 10 points. She then posted her second double-double of the season (13pts/10reb) while added five assists and two steals at William & Mary. Burnett has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week three times this season.
 
 
#CAAHoops – The Week that Was

College of Charleston (5-21; 3-12 CAA): The Cougars split games last week, falling to Drexel before bouncing back to top Northeastern, 56-54, for their first road win of the season. Bre Bolden had another solid week for CofC, averaging 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.5 steals per game.
 
Delaware (13-13; 8-7 CAA): Delaware had only one contest this week, falling to Drexel, 67-64, at home. Hannah Jardine and Courtni Green each tallied 17 points against the Dragons
 
Drexel (17-9; 11-4 CAA): The Dragons remained in sole possession of second place in the CAA Standings with a pair of victories last week. The Dragons posted a pair of road wins at College of Charleston and Delaware, improving to 7-1 away from home. Jackie Schluth averaged 17.0 points per game for the week, which included a career-best 18 points against the Cougars.
 
Elon (16-10; 9-6 CAA): The Phoenix won a pair of close contests this week. Sam Coffer hit a jumper with two seconds left to top Northeastern, 74-73. Against William & Mary, Elon overcame a deficit in the final minute of play to forge a 64-60 win. Coffer averaged 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 72.7 percent for the week. Rookie Shay Burnett added 11.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in the two wins.
 
Hofstra (17-8; 10-4 CAA): The Pride extended their winning streak to five games with a pair of wins. Hofstra downed Towson 62-48 before pulling out a 63-62 victory at No. 23/21 James Madison. It was the second time in program history Hofstra has defeated a nationally ranked opponent with the last time coming in 2006. Forward Anjie White, who has scored in double digits in five straight, averaged 14 points and six rebounds and hit the game-winning free throws against JMU. Rookie Ashunae Durant came off the bench to average 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds.
 
No. RV James Madison (23-3; 14-1 CAA): The Dukes began the week with an 85-49 win at UNCW but saw their 14-game winning streak and their 21-game home winning streak snapped with a 63-62 loss to Hofstra. Precious Hall averaged 25.5 points per game for the week while Jazmon Gwathmey added 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest.
 
UNCW (11-15; 7-8 CAA): The Seahawks split a pair of games last week. After falling against nationally-ranked James Madison, UNCW claimed a 73-71 overtime victory against Towson. Junior guard Shatia Cole posted her second 20-point game of the season in the win over Towson and also provided the game-winning jumper with 3.1 seconds remaining in the extra session.
 
Northeastern (4-21; 1-14 CAA): The Huskies had a pair of tough losses, falling to Elon, 74-73, on a last second shot and to College of Charleston, 56-54, in the closing minute. Francesca Sally averaged 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while A’lece Mark averaged 12.5 points for the week.
 
Towson (10-18; 6-10 CAA): Towson suffered a pair of tough losses at Hofstra and in overtime against UNCW in the final home game of the season. Junior guard Dominique Johnson averaged a team-high 14.5 points per game while LaTorri Hines-Allen averaged a double-double (13.5 ppg and 11.5 rpg). Hines-Allen recorded her team and CAA leading 13th double-double of the year against UNW.
 
William & Mary (12-14; 6-9 CAA): The Tribe had just one game this week, a 64-60 loss at Elon. Jazmen Boone delivered 17 points, six boards, and three steals for William & Mary while Marlena Tremba added 16 points, including four three-pointers.
