CAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - WEEKLY REPORT (DEC. 29)
 
RICHMOND, Va. (December 29, 2014) – Drexel University’s Rachel Pearson was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Towson University’s Breonn Hughey was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.

Junior guard Rachel Pearson led Drexel with a career-high 25 points in the 71-54 win over Miami (Ohio) at the Cavalier Classic. Pearson was 6-for-10 from three-point range, matching a season high. Overall, she was 7-for-12 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. She also had five rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes of action.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Breonn Hughey • Towson University
Freshman | Guard | Washington, D.C./Capital Christian Academy
 
Freshman Breonn Hughey had a huge game in the 72-70 win over George Mason, posting her first career double-double. She finished with a career-high 11 points and a career-high 10 assists. Hughey went 4-for-9 from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range. She also had three rebounds, two assists and just two turnovers in 39 minutes of action.
 
 
#CAAHoops – The Week that Was
 
With Christmas break, only five teams were in action this week.
 
College of Charleston (1-9): Despite having three players in double figures and forcing 21 turnovers, College of Charleston fell, 60-51, to in-state rivals South Carolina State on Sunday. Erin Hall and Bre Bolden had 15 points while Christy Hewatt added 12 points.
 
Drexel (6-4): The Dragons gave Head Coach Denise Dillon her 200th career victory by defeating Miami (Ohio) 71-54 at the Cavalier Classic on Sunday. Rachel Pearson finished with 25 points while Carrie Alexander made it back-to-back games in double figures, putting up 12 points.
 
Northeastern (3-6): The Huskies were the only team with two games last week, splitting contests. After falling to New Hampshire, Northeastern topped Albany, 70-67, to snap a five-game skid. Five Huskies were in double figures against the Great Danes including A’lece Mark who had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Over the two games, Amencie Mercier averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 assists.
 
Towson (4-7): The Tigers used a balanced team effort to earn a 72-70 win over George Mason. Four Tigers scored in double figures including redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen and freshman guard Breonn Hughey who posted double-doubles. Hines-Allen had 23 points and 10 rebounds while Hughey had 11 points and 10 assists.
 
William & Mary (6-4): The Tribe closed out their non-conference slate with a tough 59-56 loss to in-state rival Richmond. Sophomore Marlena Tremba had a game-high 15 points, while Kyla Kerstetter chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Freshman Abby Rendle had 11 points and seven blocked shots.
