CAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - WEEKLY REPORT (DEC. 15)
RICHMOND, Va. (December 15, 2014) – Hofstra University’s
Ashunae Durant was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player and Rookie of the Week after a 20-point effort for the Pride.
Durant set a new career-best with 20 points and added nine rebounds to help Hofstra to a 62-47 win over NJIT on December 9 and extend their winning streak to three games. Durant went 7-for-9 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free throw line. She also had two steals and a block in 33 minutes of action.
It is the third time Durant has received weekly recognition from the conference. She was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on both November 24 and December 8.
The guard has scored in double-digits in six of her first nine collegiate games. She’s averaging 11.3 points per game on 54.8 percent shooting. She’s also grabbing 6.9 rebounds in 28.8 minutes per game.

Due to the final exam period, only five teams were in action.
College of Charleston (0-8): Seniors
Erin Hall and
Mikaela Hopkins had eight points each while
Christy Hewatt corralled nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the College of Charleston fell to South Florida, 67-47.
Drexel (4-3): The Dragons battled it out at Pitt on Sunday, put could not overcome a 28-3 Panthers run, falling to the ACC foe 72-53.
Rachel Pearson and
Alexis Smith led the Dragons with 11 points apiece.
Elon (4-3): A 17-2 run in the final six minutes was not enough as the Phoenix dropped their first home game of the season, 66-50, against Vanderbilt. The game marked the first visit to Alumni by a SEC women’s basketball team and the fifth-largest crowd since the 1998-99 season.
Hofstra (6-3): The Pride picked up a 62-47 victory at NJIT on Tuesday. Freshman
Ashunae Durant scored a season-high 20 points while sophomore
Kelly Loftus notched 15 points to help the Pride extend their winning streak to three games. Loftus has scored at least 15 points in each of her last three games.
Northeastern (2-4): The Huskies fell at Maine, 60-51, on Saturday, despite a strong second-half shooting performance. The Huskies were paced by
Tiffany Montagne’s 17 points. Twelve of Montagne’s 17 points were scored in the second half, nine of which came in the final two minutes.
Amencie Mercier added 13 points.
Back on the Hardwood: Delaware, James Madison, UNCW, Towson, and William & Mary were off this week. James Madison is back in action at Ohio on December 15 while Delaware resumes play on December 16 by hosting Princeton. UNCW hosts Richmond on December 17. On December 18, Towson visits Wake Forest while William & Mary heads to Wofford.
