Boston, Mass. (Nov. 1, 2014) – William & Mary placed four runners in the top 10 and three more runners in the top 20 to capture its third straight CAA Women's Cross Country Championship -- the program's 20
th overall -- on Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
The Tribe concluded the event with 35 points, while conference newcomer Elon had five runners place in the top 15 to finish second with 46 points. James Madison and host Northeastern had 84 and 118 points, respectively, for third and fourth place. Delaware finished fifth with 121 points, followed by College of Charleston (141), Towson (195), UNCW (220) and Hofstra (285) in order.
Tribe redshirt junior Carolyn Hennessey won the individual title, completing the six-kilometer course in a time of 20:45.35 to capture first-place honors and Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet recognition. NU’s Lucy Young hung with Hennessey until the very end and placed second overall (20:50.78), while JMU’s Kathleen Stewart finished third (20:58.48).
William & Mary freshman Regan Rome crossed the finish line in 21:04.98 to earn fourth-place honors, while teammates Meghan McGovern, a junior, and Dylan Hassett, a senior, finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively.
Other women's runners earning All-CAA status this year include: Tereza Novotna, Elon (21:08.37), Jenny Gallagher, Elon (21:10.91), Tessa Mundell, James Madison (21:37.58), Elyse Bierut, Elon (21:41.06), Kimberly Johansen, Elon (21:44.57) and Jordan O’Dea, Northeastern (21:45.50).
Many CAA squads and student-athletes look to return to the course next at the NCAA Regionals on Friday, Nov. 14.
