Boston, Mass. (November 1, 2014) -
William & Mary had six runners finish in the top 15, including five consecutive runners place in order from the 7-11 spots, to impressively win the 2014 CAA Men's Cross Country Championship for the 15th straight season on Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.

The Tribe had a total score of 36 points as second-place individual finisher Ryan Gousse (25:04.83) led the way. Elon senior Luis Vargas captured the Most Outstanding Performer award after a first-place finish on the 8K course with a school-record time of 24:11.36. Vargas, who became Elon’s first-ever CAA champion, has now won each of the five races he’s competed in this fall.

For the second straight year, Northeastern finished second as a team with 48 points. Elon, racing in its first-ever CAA Championship in its inaugural season in the league, finished third with 85 points. College of Charleston (100), UNCW (128) and Hofstra (147) rounded out the final three spots.

William & Mary’s victory came in part to solid performances across the board, as the Tribe had five other runners earn All-CAA status by placing in the event’s top 12. Freshman MacKenzie Haight came in seventh-place, sophomore Faris Sakallah finished eighth, sophomore Trevor Sleight, last season’s Rookie of the Year, earned a ninth-place finish, junior Nathanial Hermsmeier came in 10th and freshman Christopher Hoyle followed in 11th, rounding out the Tribe’s all-conference honorees.

Northeastern, for the second straight year, had three runners earn All-CAA honors. Senior Zach Fraielli placed third (25:05.73), senior Zach Krause placed sixth (25:14.97) and senior Stephen Sollowin crossed the line in 12th (25:29.53). Also earning All-CAA honors was College of Charleston senior Mackenzie Johnston (25:07.73, third-place) and Elon senior Ari Rothschild (25:12.28, fifth-place).

Many CAA squads and student-athletes look to return to the course next at the NCAA Regionals on Friday, Nov. 14.
