HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 24, 2009 – On Saturday, October 24th The JMU Swimming and Diving team participated in the Seventh Annual Race to Beat Breast Cancer.  The 5K/10K race was held at Westover Park in Harrisonburg and gathered an event record $15,000 in donations.  All the proceeds go to the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Cancer Treatment Center.

Although it was rainy, the JMU women had a great time being in the record field of 601 runners and walkers.  The swimming and diving team wore pink JMU Swim & Dive t-shirts with a large breast cancer ribbon on the back.  The girls stood out in the crowd and enjoyed the experience.

JMU head coach Samantha Smith commented, “The weather didn’t cooperate, but our team is very good at finding a positive in most any situation. There was a lot of laughter and team camaraderie during this rainy run for a great cause!  The breast cancer run was an idea our team came up with, and they enjoyed participating and contributing to the community for a great cause.”
