Hofstra Softball Receives Votes In Two Major Preseason Polls
Hempstead, N.Y. (February 7, 2014) - Coming off a season in which the Hofstra softball program won the Colonial Athletic Association championship, the Pride recently received votes in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Preseason Top-25 poll, as well as the ESPN.Com/USA Softball Collegiate Top-25 preseason poll.
Hofstra received 27 votes in the USA Today poll, which was the fourth-highest total among teams not in the top-25. The Pride finished 2013 ranked 25th in the final NFCA poll. That marked the fourth time in program history and the second consecutive season that the squad appeared in the final poll of the season. In the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate poll, Hofstra received two votes.
In 2013, Hofstra set the program-standard for single-season wins by going 46-13 and advancing to the NCAA Regional finals against Missouri. The win total bested the previous mark of 45-win campaigns recorded by both the 2008 and 2010 squads. In all, Hofstra returns 11 letter winners and seven players who have been everyday players at some point in their careers for the Pride.
Hofstra will start the 2014 campaign on Friday, Feb. 14 at noon with Opening day against Southern Mississippi. The Pride will play five games in a three-day span at the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.
