UD's Patzner, Winesett Grab Weekly Field Hockey Honors -- Nov. 5
Michaela Patzner • Delaware
Rosenheim, Germany/Karolinen Gymnasium, So., Midfielder
Patzner’s third weekly honor of the season comes on the heels of a three-goal, one assist weekend which saw the Blue Hens earn two huge wins and their first ever CAA regular season title. In an impressive 4-0 victory at Drexel on Friday, Patzner gave the Hens an early 1-0 lead, then added some insurance with another goal to make it 3-0 late in the second half. The win not only assured that UD would host its first CAA championship tournament, but also allowed the team to finish league play perfect (6-0) for the first time. The Germany native capped off the weekend with one goal and one assist in a 6-1 rout of Villanova on Sunday.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Meghan Winesett • Delaware
Centreville, Va./Westfield, Fr., Forward
Winesett, like Patzner, won her third weekly honor of the season thanks to lending a helpful hand in Delaware’s 2-0 week. She registered one goal in the 4-0 win at Drexel, then handed out two helpers in the Blue Hens’ 6-1 triumph versus Villanova. Overall, the freshman finished her first career regular season with a team-high eight assists and is tied for third on UD with 22 points and seven goals this year.
