Balouris broke the meet record at the two-mile course with a time of 10:17.5. She also helped lead the Tribe to an overwhelming team victory over five other Division I programs. For her efforts, Balouris was named USTFCCCA Division I Women’s National Runner of the Week on Monday for the program’s first national award. The Allison Park, Pa., native now owns eight career victories at W&M, including three in cross country.
Among other noteworthy performances during the second week of the 2013 cross country season, Balouris’ teammate Emily Stites, who set the old course record at the Spider Alumni Open last year with a time of 10:32.5, finished second in the event by a mere 0.08 seconds. UNCW senior Ashley Wybersky finished fourth overall out of 32 Division I runners, with a time of 18:41.13 at the Seahawk Invitational 5K this weekend. She was the top runner for UNCW for the second straight week.
