RICHMOND, Va. (August 23, 2013) – The CAA’s 2013-14 season officially gets underway on Friday with all nine of the league’s women’s soccer teams in action.

Headlining Friday’s slate is a pair of games against nationally ranked opponents as Northeastern travels to 5th-ranked UCLA and William & Mary visits 18th-ranked Georgetown. Defending CAA champion Hofstra opens the year at the Penn State Invitational, where the Pride faces Syracuse on Friday before meeting the 4th-ranked Nittany Lions on Sunday.

The College of Charleston makes its debut as a CAA member on Friday when it entertains local rival Charleston Southern. Also opening the season at home are Towson, which faces Baltimore neighbor Loyola, and James Madison, which takes on in-state foe Richmond in the first round of its own tournament.

Three other CAA teams start the year on the road on Friday. Delaware goes to St. John’s in a game that will be televised on ESPN3, UNCW heads to South Carolina and Drexel takes on Rutgers.

The CAA has been extremely balanced in women’s soccer with five different teams winning the conference title over the past five years. The league has had multiple teams selected for the NCAA Tournament in 15 of the last 20 seasons.
