2013 CAA Menís Golf Postseason Accolades Headlined by UNCWís McLeod

RICHMOND, Va. (May 9, 2013) – UNCW junior Payne McLeod was selected as the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Golfer of the Year by a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Also earning top honors from the conference were Drexel’s Chris Crawford as CAA Rookie of the Year and the Dragons’ Mike Dynda as CAA Coach of the Year.

McLeod is the Seahawks’ third straight CAA Men’s Golfer of the Year honor and the program’s fifth honor overall. The junior led UNCW to its third straight CAA Championship title and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals as McLeod earned medalist with a three-day score of 215 (73-67-75). McLeod earned a scoring average of 72.41 over the span of 10 tournaments. The junior also earned a first place finish at the Seahawks Intercollegiate carding 72-71—143 and a second place finish at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic (75-70-68—213) to tab five top four finishes during the 2012-13 season.  McLeod earned CAA Golfer of the Week honors five times during his junior campaign.

Crawford completed his rookie campaign with a scoring average of 74.04 through 10 tournaments. He earned a pair of medalist honors winning the Swarthmore Open in September carding a 72 in the single-round event and finishing first in the Lafayette Invitational in April with a score of 143 (72-71). The freshman concluded the 2012-13 season with seven top 10 finishes. Crawford scored a career-low 67 in the first month of his young career in the final round of the CHAMPS/Patriot Intercollegiate.

Dynda, who is in his 10th season at the helm of the Dragons’ program, earned his first CAA Men’s Golf Coach of the Year honors after leading Drexel to six top four team finishes on the season, including a team title at the Swarthmore Open and a pair of second place finishes at the Lafayette Invitational and the Manor Intercollegiate. Dynda also led the Dragons to a fourth place finish at the CAA Championship. The Dragons finished 13th or better in all 10 tournaments it participated in this season and posted an average team score of 306.17.
