RICHMOND, Va. (May 7, 2013) – UNCW junior Lori Beth Adams was voted as the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Golfer of the Year by the league’s head coaches.

Also earning top honors from the conference were Xavier’s Shane Crutchfield as the CAA Rookie of the Year and Richmond’s Maggie Will as CAA Coach of the Year.

Adams is the third Seahawks’ women’s golfer to earn CAA Player of the Year honors since the conference started sponsoring the sport in 2003. The junior earned an at-large bid as an individual to the NCAA Regionals with a stroke average of 74.32 over 11 tournaments. Adams earned a top 10 finish in eight of her 11 tournaments played this season, including a second-place finish at the CAA Championship, where she scored a 230 (83-71-76) in the three-day event. She also placed third in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate after shooting a 71 in the single round contest and finished third in UNCW’s own Seahawk Classic in April with a three-round total of 222 (73-74-75). Adams earned CAA Golfer of the Week honors six times over the 2012-13 season.

Crutchfield completed her rookie campaign with a scoring average of 77.03 over 11 tournaments. She earned five top six finishes and nine top 20 honors in her first year with the Musketeers. Crutchfield completed her freshman season with a third-place effort at the CAA Championship carding 75-79-58—232. The rookie had her best finish of the year when she tied for second place at the Rio Verde Invitational in March after posting a score of 145, which included a career-low 71 in the final round of the two-round event.

Will, who became the Spiders’ head coach last July, earned CAA Women’s Golf Coach of the Year honors after leading Richmond to a pair of team victories and seven top six team finishes this season. Will also guided the Spiders to a fourth place finish at the CAA Championship after placing eighth a year ago.  Richmond finished in 11th place or better in all 10 tournaments it participated in this season and posted an average team score of 308.26.
