CAA Track & Field Honors – March 20
RICHMOND, Va. (March 20, 2013) – UNCW’s Ryan O’Connor and Meena Reid collected the first CAA men’s and women’s Track Athlete of the Week awards of 2013 for the week ending March 18. George Mason’s Sean Daugherty and Delaware’s Alana Pantale earned the first CAA men’s and women’s Field Athlete of the Week awards.
O’Connor finished first in the 800 meters at last Saturday’s Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Owings, Md. native posted a time of 1:53.22 to win the event while also helping the Seahawks’ 4x800 relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 7:42.20.
Reid had a career weekend at the Shamrock Invitational for the Seahawks. She brought home a third-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 11.68, breaking her previous school record. The Gastonia, N.C. native also posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters with a new school-record time of 24.22.
Daugherty earned the men’s Field Athlete of the Week award after posting a first-place finish in the pole vault at the VCU Invitational last weekend. The freshman from Burke, Va. won the event with a height of 4.65m (15’3”) in his first outdoor meet for the Patriots.
Pantale picked up women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors after two first-place finishes last weekend at the VCU Invitational. Pantale posted a career-best 49.10m (161’1”) throw in the hammer to earn top honors in the event and captured gold in the shot put with a throw of 12.85m (42’2”). The Wayne, N.J. native also brought home a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 40.95m (134’4”).
