CAA FOOTBALL LOGS 13 SPORTS NETWORK ALL-AMERICANS
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (December 22, 2010) -- CAA Football, which will be represented in the 2011 NCAA Division I National Championship game Jan. 7 by the Delaware Blue Hens, logged 13 Sports Network All-America honors Wednesday. The league, which has been part of five-straight National Championship games and seven of the last eight, was led by Massachusetts’ linebacker Tyler Holmes, Villanova’s offensive lineman Ben Ijalana and Richmond’s defensive lineman Martin Parker.
Parker, on his way to consensus All-America status having already earned First Team honors from the AFCA, the Walter Camp organization and the Associated Press, finished his Spider career with a league-best 96 tackles from his defensive tackle position and ranked second in CAA Football with 5.5 sacks in 11 games.
Ijalana, also named to the First Team by the AFCA, the Walter Camp organization and the Associated Press, was CAA Football’s only First Team offensive honoree. The three-time First Team All-CAA Football honoree, finished 10th in the Outland Trophy Award voting earlier this month -- given to the nation’s top major college football interior lineman. The Hainesport, N.J., native led a Wildcat offensive front which averaged 194.9 rushing yards/game and just over 30 points/game.
Joining Parker on the defensive First Team was Holmes, also one of two CAA Football Defensive Players of the Year following the 2010 season. The Blacksburg, Va., native finished his junior campaign with 110 tackles and five sacks in 11 contests. The linebacker, who was also a First Team AFCA and Associated Press All-America selection, hauled in five interceptions over 11 games, including two returned for touchdowns in the same contest.
