West Leads Towson to Win Over Eastern Illinois in FCS Quarterfinals
CHARLESTON, Ill. (Dec. 13, 2013) – Coming off a snowy 49-39 victory over Eastern Illinois on Friday night, Coach Rob Ambroseand the Towson University football team will face No. 3 Eastern Washington in an NCAA FCS semifinal game on Saturday, Dec. 21 at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash.
Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. (EST) and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
While the Tigers are making their second NCAA FCS playoff appearance in the last three years, Eastern Washington is making its tenth appearance in the FCS playoffs since 1985. The Eagles won the national championship with a 20-19 victory over Delaware in 2010.
After the Tigers advanced to the NCAA FCS semi-finals with their 49-39 win at Eastern Illinois, the Eagles used a 35-24 victory over Jacksonville State to reach the semi-finals.
Towson has never played Eastern Washington or any team from the Big Sky Conference. Eastern Washington is 2-0 against teams from the Colonial Athletic Association. The Eagles beat Delaware and Villanova in 2010.
The Eagles, who won the Big Sky Conference with an 8-0 record, were seeded third in the NCAA FCS playoffs while Towson was seeded seventh.
Eastern Washington, now 12-2 on the season, is 7-0 at home this season. The Tigers, who are also 12-2, have an 8-0 road record this season.
The winner of the Towson-Eastern Washington game will advance to the NCAA FCS Championship Game in Frisco, Texas on Saturday, Jan. 4.
