INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Before racing was suspended due to poor wind conditions, Boston University's varsity eight boat clinched a spot in the C Final on day two of the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships with wins over the Patriot League and West Coast Conference champions.

The second varsity eight and varsity four boats were en route to the warm-up area when racing was cancelled for the day after two other crews in a separate race took on water. An incoming storm prevented the opportunity to compete later in the afternoon.

Coxed by junior Sarah Specht and stroked by senior Caroline Kimberly, the varsity eight boat needed a top-three finish in its semifinal race to reach the C Final. Battling rough conditions at Eagle Creek Park, the Terriers finished third with a time of 7:47.418, four seconds ahead of Navy and six seconds ahead of Gonzaga.

Ranked ninth nationally, Notre Dame won with a time of 7:37.292, while No. 16 Cornell took second at 7:43.743. BU was in second after crossing the 1500-meter marker by one second, but the Big Red finished strong to pull ahead of the Terriers.

Entering the competition seeded 18th, BU can finish as high as 13th overall now with the C Final scheduled for 8:40 a.m. on Sunday (June 2). The Terriers will face No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 13 Wisconsin, No. 15 Washington State, No. 16 Cornell and Oklahoma.

The second varsity eight and varsity four crews will begin the day at 8 a.m. in their respective C/D semifinal races. They will then take to the water again between 10:20-10:50 the C or D Final.
