A Pair Of CAA Women's Rowers Named To CRCA Pocock All-America Second Team

George Mason's Maureen McAuilffe and Northeastern's Veronica Townsend were named to the 2011 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Pocock All-America Second Team on June 6.

McAuliffe is currently attending the USRowing Women's U23 National Selection Camp in Oklahoma City. She was one of 24 collegiate rowers in the nation invited to attend the camp which culminates in the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, or the U23 Trials in West Windsor, N.J. Last month, McAuliffe was named to the All Mid-Atlantic Region First Team by the CRCA.

Townsend, a native of Mays Landing, N.J., finishes her career at Northeastern as one the top rowers in recent program history. In addition to this year's All-American status, Townsend has collected a pair of CAA Championships (2009, 2011), was named to the CRCA Second Team All-Region in 2010 and to the 2009 CRCA All-New England Team.

The first and second team awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains on the national level in women's collegiate rowing. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must meet the general requirements for CRCA post-season honors, which includes having rowed at least 75% of the current spring season's races in the varsity boat. A student-athlete is selected to 1st and 2nd teams based on the strength of finish of the institution's varsity eight within the country, coach comments and 2k erg score.
