Field Set for 2013 CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship
RICHMOND, Va. (April 27, 2013) -- The field is set for the 2013 CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship. A Massachusetts win over Delaware Friday evening, plus a Hofstra and Saint Joseph's loss on Saturday night, secured the Minutemen the fourth-seed in the upcoming championship.
The tournament, which will be hosted at Penn State in a final four format, will begin on Wednesday, May 1 in University Park, Pa. The 8th-ranked and top-seeded Nittany Lions (11-3, 6-0 CAA) will host fourth-seeded UMass (7-7, 2-4 CAA) at 3:00 p.m., at Penn State Lacrosse Field. The second semifinal will highlight 17th-ranked and second-seeded Drexel (11-3, 5-1 CAA) and third-seeded Towson (8-7, 4-2 CAA) at 5:30 p.m.
The winners will meet Friday, May 3, in the CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship game at Penn State Lacrosse Field at 3:00 p.m.
The Nittany Lions, which are making its third-straight CAA postseason appearance, earned the top seed thanks to their unblemished mark of 6-0 in league play. Penn State, which extended its road record to a perfect 7-0 mark, is riding a nation-leading nine-game winning streak entering the championship. Drexel is making its second straight CAA postseason appearance and seventh overall appearance in the CAA tournament. The Dragons wrapped up the regular season with a 14-8 non-conference victory over High Point to extend their home winning record to 8-0 on the season.
Towson is making its second-straight postseason appearance in the CAA championship and will look to take the title for the first time since winning it three years straight from 2003-05. Massachusetts enters the tournament on a two-game winning streak with victories over Hofstra and Delaware. The Minutemen, who were the preseason favorite by a vote of the CAA head coaches, suffered some injuries throughout the year, but posted victories over nationally-ranked North Carolina (#7) and Lehigh (#16), as well as the Pride of Hofstra (#20).
