CAA Fall Sports In Full Swing This Weekend
The CAA fall sports season is in full swing on Friday as cross country, field hockey, men’s soccer and volleyball teams open their schedules and women’s soccer resumes non-conference action.
In field hockey, the CAA’s two preseason nationally ranked squads face tough tests on the opening weekend. Northeastern, ranked #15, hosts 11th-ranked Northwestern on Sunday afternoon, while 17th-ranked Drexel visits 10th-ranked Duke on Sunday. On Labor Day, Delaware is at #16 Boston University. In men’s soccer, CAA newcomer College of Charleston opens at home against 8th-ranked Akron on Friday night and meets a strong Xavier team on Sunday. Also on Friday, Drexel hosts a Fairleigh Dickinson squad that is nationally ranked in some polls, while UNCW visits Ohio State. Defending CAA champion Northeastern faces Elon and Duke in Durham, N.C. this weekend, and William & Mary meets 5th-ranked Connecticut on Labor Day. Click here for the complete men’s soccer schedule.
All eight CAA volleyball squads compete in tournaments this weekend. Delaware heads to California for the Pepperdine Invitational where it faces tough matches against the host Waves and Wisconsin. Three CAA teams are at tournaments hosted by ACC squads as College of Charleston plays at Georgia Tech, Towson competes at Virginia Tech and James Madison is at Virginia. CAA women’s soccer teams begin their second weekend of competition. Northeastern hosts Big Ten foe Northwestern and SEC opponent South Carolina, while College of Charleston travels to Illinois and DePaul.
