UNCW Heads to NCAA Men's Golf Fayetteville Regional
Head Coach Matt Clark and his UNCW Seahawks learned Monday that they will compete in the Fayetteville Regional of the NCAA Men’s Golf Tournament hosted by the University of Arkansas, May 16-18.
The Seahawks will be competing in their fourth consecutive regional and the third time in as many years as the reigning Colonial Athletic Association champions.
“We’re excited to have the opportunity to compete in the Fayetteville Regional,” said Clark, who is in his fifth season at the helm of the Seahawk program. “This is a very talented field we’ll be competing against, but we’re eager to get back on the course and get after it.”
This will be the Seahawks first appearance in Fayetteville after competing in New Haven, Conn. (2009-10), Blacksburg, Va. (2010-11) and Athen, Ga. (2011-12) in recent years under Clark’s guidance.
For Clark, this will be his ninth trip to the NCAA regionals after helping Georgia State in each of his five seasons directing the Panthers.
The Seahawks won the CAA’s automatic berth with a 24-stroke victory at the CAA Championship in late April.
Joining the Seahawks in Fayetteville are defending national champion Texas, host Arkansas, perennial power Oklahoma State, SMU, Kent State, Illinois, Liberty, Tulsa, Kentucky, Colorado, Indiana, UMKC and Alabama State.
The Seahawks edged Kent State, by a stroke, for the Seahawk Intercollegiate in March at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. UNCW also faced off with SMU (0-1), Colorado (0-1) and UMKC (0-1) at the Bandon Dunes Collegiate in early March. The Seahawks also competed against Liberty at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate, won by the Flames, in early October.
