RICHMOND, Va. (August 22, 2013) – Drexel senior midfielder Lindsay McArdle has been named the 2013 CAA field hockey preseason Player of the Year according to a vote by the league’s head coaches.

McArdle started all 22 games for the Dragons last season, scoring a team-high 12 goals and registering three assists for 27 points overall. The Upper Darby, Pa., native also tied for first on her team in game-winning goals with three, while ranking fifth in the CAA in shots (63) and sixth in points. McArdle was a first-team All-CAA honoree in 2012 and was a Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Region first-team selection.

McArdle was one of four Drexel players on the 2013 field hockey preseason team, where she was joined by sophomores Lauren Hibshman, Danielle Grassi and Jenna Knouse. Hibshman registered three assists and tallied one goal en route to earning second-team All-CAA and CAA All-Rookie honors. Grassi (1g, 2a) and Knouse were also All-Rookie picks in 2012.

Making the team from Northeastern were senior forward Lindsay Bennett and sophomore Zoe Kale. Bennett recorded five goals and dished out 11 helpers for the Huskies while Kale scored one goal and made the CAA All-Rookie squad. Representing Delaware were junior Kelsey McKee and sophomore Michaela Patzner. McKee led the Blue Hens for the second straight year with 11 goals and 24 points in 2012 and was tabbed a first-team All-CAA member. Patzner was chosen to the All-CAA second team after contributing seven goals and two assists.

Named to the squad from JMU were goalkeeper Lena Wimmert and midfielder Loes Stijntjes. Wimmert was a second-team All-CAA selection in 2012 after leading the league in goals against average (1.27) and save percentage (.811) -- also good for No. 3 in Division I -- and finishing second with five shutouts. Stijnetjes also made the All-CAA second team after tallying two goals and two assists. Chosen from William & Mary were junior Jesse Ebner and sophomore Pippin Saunders. Ebner chipped in two goals and four assists for the Tribe a year ago, while Saunders led the Tribe in points (22) and tied for a team-high with eight goals while making the CAA All-Rookie squad.

Rounding out the preseason team is Hofstra junior forward Jonel Boileau, who scored a team-high 11 goals and added three assists for the Pride to garner a spot on the All-CAA second team.

The 2013 CAA field hockey season starts Friday, August 30 with five teams in action. The preseason team included eight sophomores, six players from the state of Pennsylvania and five players who are natives of countries outside the U.S.
