CAA Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week:

Maria Caro, Sr., Midfielder / Defender, William & Mary

Caro scored her first two goals of the year this weekend, with both being game winners.  Her first goal came Friday against No. 11 Boston University, and gave the Tribe a 1-0 victory over the Terriers.  Sunday against Miami (OH), she again had the game-winner with the first goal of an eventual 2-1 victory.

CAA Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week:

Taylor West, R-Fr., Forward, James Madison

West helped lead James Madison to a 2-0 showing last week as it picked up a pair of overtime wins over Longwood and No. 18 Boston College. She scored twice during the week, including one-game winning goal against Boston College. Against Longwood, the redshirt freshman forward tallied a penalty stroke goal to put the Dukes ahead of the Lancers in the second half. She lifted Madison past B.C. with a tipped in goal in double overtime. West added nine shots, including six shots on goal.

CAA Field Hockey Rookie of the Week:

Cate Johnson, R-Fr., Goal Keeper, William & Mary

Johnson recorded her first career shutout Saturday in the Tribe's upset of No. 11 Boston University while making six saves in the process.  Sunday against Miami, she made seven stops in the 2-1 victory, including five in the final six minutes to preserve the win.  For the week, she had a 0.5 GAA and 13 saves with a 92.9% save percentage, while improving her record to a perfect 3-0 with one shutout.

 

Conference Notes

A season-high four CAA schools are ranked in this week's NFHCA Top 25 national poll (Northeastern - 8, Old Dominion - 9, William & Mary - 20, Drexel - 23).

Through seven games this season 10 different Lady Monarchs have registered a goal for Old Dominion.

ODU knocked off their third ranked opponent of the season Sunday afternoon by defeating #17 Duke 3-1 in Durham, N.C.

William & Mary's 7-1 start is their best record through eight games since 2000.

Towson freshman Heather Jenney recorded her first career multi-goal game Sunday afternoon against Providence.

CAA conference play begins this Friday night (Sept 21) with all eight teams in action over the weekend.

William & Mary knocked off  No. 11 Boston University 1-0 last Friday night in WIlliamsburg, Va. Senior midfielder Maria Caro registered the game winning goal in the 42nd minute with assists from Jesse Ebner and Chaney Manganello. The win was W&M's highest-ranked upset since beating #8 Old Dominion in 2004.

James Madison defeated No. 18 Boston College 2-1 in double overtime last Sunday in a neutral field contest in College Park, Md. JMU's Bethany Ashworth scored the game's first goal in the 66th minute off an assist from Dana Allaband. However Boston College scored just two minutes later in the 68th minute to force overtime.  Following a scorelss first overtime, redshirt freshman Taylor West scored the game-winning goal for JMU in the 93rd minute to give the Dukes the 2-1 victory.
