UNCW's Halonen Earns Fifth Men's Swimmer of the Week Nod -- Jan. 21
RICHMOND, Va. (January 21, 2014) – For the fifth time this season, UNCW junior Valtteri Halonen earned CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors.
Even more impressive than hearing his name called for the fifth time during the 2013-14 swimming/diving season is that Halonen’s honor on Tuesday is the eighth weekly nod by a Seahawk male overall. Diver Allen Crosby has won Diver of the Week honors three times this season.
This past weekend, Halonen claimed first place finishes in three individual events and four event overall in a meet versus Wingate. The Finland native swam the 200 free in 1:43.97, the 100 fly in 50.45, the 200 back in 1:50.63 and the winning 400 medley relay in 3:51.12.
Fellow Seahawk Joe Gallene, a senior, captured first-place honors in both the 50 and 100 free with times of 21.03 and 46.73, respectively in the 138.5-121.5 victory.
