CAA Teams With Maroon PR and Leffler Agency
Richmond, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association today announced it has engaged two nationally respected Baltimore, Md. firms to provide public relations and advertising services to promote the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship. The 2014 tournament will be played March 7-10, 2014 at the Baltimore Arena.
The firms, Maroon PR and the Leffler Agency, will assist CAA conference staff and the nine member universities in developing awareness and promoting ticket sales surrounding the Championship. Maroon PR will focus on media relations, social media and strategic partnerships, while the Leffler Agency will develop advertising strategies for ticket sales.
“We’re pleased to have the local knowledge and experience of two of the most respected firms in Baltimore to help promote the CAA’s showcase event,” CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager said. “The Leffler Agency and Maroon PR have extensive profiles working with high-profile sports brands, college athletics departments and major events.”

Maroon PR’s current clients include the University of Maryland football program, Ripken Baseball, Sagamore Racing and the LPGA’s International Crown coming to Caves Valley Golf Club in July 2014. Since it’s founding in April 2006, the firm has helped manage public relations efforts for some of the biggest events in the region, including the annual Cal Ripken World Series, IRONMAN and Iron Girl endurance events with TriColumbia, and two international soccer matches at M&T Bank Stadium with the Baltimore Ravens.

The 30-year-old Leffler Agency is a full service advertising agency with retail, entertainment, professional sports and collegiate clients. Among the nearly 20 current sports clients are the Preakness, U.S. Naval Academy, NHL Columbus Bluejackets, Georgia Tech, Rutgers and CAA members Towson University and University of Delaware.
Baltimore provides a central location for the CAA Men's Basketball Championship, which serves as an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. Six of the CAA's nine member schools are located within 250 miles of Baltimore and more than 370,000 alumni from CAA institutions reside within 100 miles of the city. In December 2012, the CAA and the City of Baltimore reached a three-year agreement to conduct the tournament at the Baltimore Arena. Previously, the Championship had been played at the Richmond (Va.) Coliseum since 1990.
The semifinals and finals of the CAA Men's Basketball Championship are televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network, and all four quarterfinal contests are televised regionally by Comcast SportsNet and other CAA television partners.
CAA teams have combined to win 41 games in postseason play since 2006, including 14 victories in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. During that eight-year period, the CAA has had two teams reach the NCAA Final Four, one reach the semifinals of the NIT and has had squads capture championships of the CBI and CIT. The CAA has had at least five teams reach postseason play in four of the past five years.
