RICHMOND, Va. (April 16, 2013) – The CAA has honored six men’s and women’s tennis players for outstanding performances last week.

UNCW senior Kosta Blank (Winnipeg, Canada) and the William & Mary doubles team of sophomore Aaron Chaffee (Frisco, Texas) and senior Anton Andersson (Bastad, Sweden) earned CAA men’s tennis honors for the week ending April 14. Recognized on the women’s side were James Madison sophomore Taylor Pinchoff (Sylvan Lake, Mich.) and the William & Mary duo of senior Anik Cepeda (College Station, Texas) and junior Hope Johnson (Welwyn Garden City, U.K.).

Blank was named the CAA men’s tennis Player of the Week after going 2-0 at the No. 4 singles spot in the 55th-ranked Seahawks’ victories over 68th-ranked Old Dominion (6-1) and rival East Carolina (5-2). The senior topped the Monarchs’ Jonas Kuwert, 6-2, 7-5, and rolled past the Pirates’ Mario Martinez, 6-2, 6-1. He has won nine of his last 10 singles matches and improved to 9-2 at the No. 4 slot and 13-4 overall. Blank also tied a UNCW school record with his 58th career doubles victory in the win over ODU.

Chaffee and Andersson were honored as the CAA men’s Doubles Team of the Week after increasing their winning streak to six with a 2-0 mark at the No. 1 position. The duo won seven of the final nine games to rally from a 5-2 deficit and defeat Richmond’s Ethan Dunbar and Sebastien Fauchet, 9-7. Chaffee and Andersson also recorded a convincing 8-2 triumph over 88th-ranked Carlos Lopez Villa and Can Cetinel of Old Dominion. They are now 10-7 in doubles this season.

Pinchoff was chosen as the CAA women’s tennis Player of the Week after posting a 3-0 mark at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in JMU’s victories over Radford (6-1) and conference foes Towson (7-0) and Delaware (6-1). In singles, the sophomore defeated Radford’s Taylor Newman, 7-5, 6-4, Towson’s Ayana Dow, 6-4, 6-0, and Delaware’s Danea Jonjic, 6-0, 6-4. She is 9-8 overall, but has won seven of her last 10 matches. In doubles, Pinchoff and partner Michelle Nguyen captured all three matches to extend their winning streak to six. The duo is 12-3 overall in doubles and has won nine of their last 10 matches.

Cepeda and Johnson were named the CAA women’s Doubles Team of the Week after going 2-0 at No. 2 doubles as the Tribe split matches with 39th-ranked VCU (3-4) and rival Old Dominion (4-3). The duo posted an 8-3 victory over the Rams’ Cindy Chala and Josefin Hjertquist to help W&M earn the doubles point. They clinched the doubles point against the Lady Monarchs’ by pulling out an 8-6 victory over Juliana Pires and Melissa Esnal Olguin. Cepeda and Johnson have won four straight matches to even their record at 8-8 this season, including 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
