NEWARK, Del. -- The pairings for the 2012 Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament were announced today, and the University of Delaware will kick off the season at home against Sam Houston on November 9 at the Bob Carpenter Center in an 8 p.m. tipoff.

The Preseason WNIT will be played Nov. 9-18 in a three-game guarantee championship format. Eleven of the 16 teams in the tournament are coming off of postseason berths, while six competed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including the Blue Hen CAA Champions who won their first-ever NCAA Tournament game with an 73-42 victory over Arkansas in the first round.

Sam Houston finished the season with an 18-12 overall record and 12-4 mark in the Southland Conference. The Bearkats won the West Division championship by posting the school's most league wins in more than a decade.

The winner of the opening round game will meet the winner of the Georgetown-Sacred Heart contest in the quarterfinals on Nov. 11. The other teams on Delaware's side of the bracket are North Carolina, Davidson, Duquesne, and Liberty.

The event opens Nov. 9 with first-round games. Second-round games will be played Nov. 11 and sites will be announced following the first round results; semifinals will be Nov. 14-15; and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 18. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 16-17. All games will be hosted by participating schools.

Delaware will be making its first Preseason WNIT appearance since the 2007-08 season. The Blue Hens defeated Delaware State, 54-57, at home, before falling to No. 4 Maryland, 91-43, in the quarterfinals. The Hens then fell to Texas Christian, 66-36, in the consolation game.
