Richmond, Va. (February 17, 2014) –

Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors

 PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Ali Curwin • James Madison

Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland, Jr., Midfielder

Curwin came out firing in the Dukes’ season opener versus Virginia Tech, registering four goals and two assists in a solid, 14-11 victory. The junior, who earned preseason All-CAA honors, helped ignite a critical 6-1 JMU run after her second goal of the game knotted the contest at 3-3. The run allowed the Dukes to hold on for the win, while Curwin tied a game-high with six points overall.

 DEFENDER OF THE WEEK:

Amanda Norcini • Drexel

Wayne, Pa./Conestoga, Sr., Midfielder

Norcini might play the midfield position, but the senior showcased her defensive abilities over the weekend to help Drexel down George Washington, 12-7. She forced a team-high three turnovers and impressively picked up eight ground balls -- one shy of a program record. On top of that, the Pennsylvania native added a career-high four goals and the Dragons won their opener for the seventh straight season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:

Eva Winiarski • Drexel

Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West, R-Fr., Midfielder

Winiarski only took one shot in her first career college game, but the freshman made it count, as it found the back of the net to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead over George Washington. Drexel went on to win, 12-7, but Winiarski’s tally put the team ahead for good. Winiarski finished with five draw controls as well and helped her first-year head coach, Hannah Rudloff, earn her first career coaching victory.
