CofC’s Fuenfstueck, Delaware’s Chua Collect CAA Women’s Golfers of the Week Accolades – Oct. 30
RICHMOND, Va. (October 30, 2013) – A pair of freshmen share the weekly CAA Women’s Golf honors as College of Charleston’s Laura Fuenfstueck and Delaware’s Grace Chua each earned second-place finishes in their respective tournaments.
Fuenfstueck, who has earned CAA weekly honors two times earlier this season, finished tied for second place in the Palmetto Intercollegiate held on the par 72, 5,972-yard Turtle Point Golf Course. The rookie paced the Cougars to a tie for fifth place after shooting an even score over the three days, 69-73-74—216. Fuenfstueck’s first round score of 69 was the tournament’s daily low, while her 73 in the second round advanced her to hold on to the lead among the individuals. She finished the tournament just two strokes back from medalist Georgia State’s Melissa Siviter (77-70-67—214).
Chua earns her first weekly league honor of her young career after leading her team to a first-place finish at the Delaware Fall Invitational on the par 71, 5,978-yard Rehoboth Beach Country Club course. The freshman carded 75-76-71—222 (+9) to finish in second place in the individual standings after falling short in a one-hole playoff to medalist Sophia Chen of Penn. Chua completed the tournament with a 71 for her lowest round in her career, as she posted her fourth top 10 finish during the five tournaments this fall. The Blue Hens’ victory was the team’s third championship title during the 2013 fall season.
