Softball Weekly Honors - May 6

The field is set for the upcoming CAA Softball Championship. Hofstra, the regular season champions, finished the conference slate with an 18-2 mark to earn the right to host the 2013 CAA Softball Championship and the top-seed in the tournament.  James Madison, which went 18-3 in CAA action, earned the No. 2 seed, while Delaware and Towson will be the third and fourth seeds, respectively.  The tournament will begin on Wednesday, May 8 as No. 1 Hofstra will face No. 4 Towson at 2 p.m., followed by No. 2 James Madison versus No. 3 Delaware at 5 p.m.  The championship will continue on Thursday and is scheduled to wrap-up on Friday with the winner earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAAs.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Sarah Mooney • James Madison
Huntersville, N.C./North Mecklenburg, So., Utility

Mooney collected the final CAA Player of the Week honor of the season after leading JMU to a sweep of Georgia State in the Dukes final weekend of the regular season. The Huntersville, N.C., native hit .545 (6-for-11) with three homers, six RBI and a stolen base while scoring six runs. The sophomore homered in each of the three games, giving her a league-leading and school record 15 on the season. Mooney also played stellar defense in the field appearing in all three games at first base and not committing an error.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Olivia Galati • Hofstra
West Babylon, N.Y./St. John the Baptist, Sr., Pitcher

Galati earned the final CAA Pitcher of the Week honors of the season after striking out 34 batters in four Hofstra victories last week. Galati threw her fourth career perfect game against Towson on May 3rd by retiring all 15 batters in the Pride’s 8-0 five-inning victory. She also threw three shutouts in a weekend sweep up the Tigers that secured HU the CAA regular season title. The West Babylon, N.Y., native held batters to a .132 batting average in four appearances, while not allowing a single run or a walk in 22 innings of work in the circle.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Erica Field • James Madison
Manassas, Va./Osbourn, Fr., Catcher/Third Baseman

Field picked up the final CAA Rookie of the Week honor of the season after hitting .500 in the Dukes three-game sweep of Georgia State. Field hit two doubles and three RBI, while scoring six runs in the three game series. The Manassas, Va., native hit two doubles in JMU’s 5-4 win in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday and scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to help the Dukes clinch the series. Field is batting .339 this season with 58 hits in 171 at-bats and is 10-for-10 on stolen base attempts.
