CAA SAAC Group To Conduct Food Drive Challenge
Institutions have partnered with local food bank organizations and designated days during the spring term, most in conjunction with athletics events, to collect nonperishable food items for the “competition”. Rather than limiting institutions to a one-day food drive, institutions will have the opportunity to schedule the food drive for up to seven days. With this extension, institutions have the option to take advantage of multiple campus events over a weekend and extend into the weekdays if desired.
A winner will be determined based on the number of pounds of nonperishable food collected by each institution. Monetary donations will be accepted and converted into pounds of food at a consistent rate as well. The CAA will announce the winner in March and CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager will present the winning institution with a trophy during a future event.
All nine members of the CAA will participate in the 2nd Annual CAA Food Drive Challenge. Last year’s event resulted in 9,570 pounds of donated food along with nearly $2,700 in cash to local food banks.
