CAA Welcomes CofC As It Newest Member
The CAA is excited to officially welcome the College of Charleston as its newest member. The Cougars will participate in 16 varsity sports including men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s swimming & diving and women’s track & field.
The College of Charleston is a public liberal arts and sciences university located in the heart of historic Charleston, S.C. Founded in 1770, the College is among the nation's top universities for quality education, student life and affordability. With more than 11,000 students, the College of Charleston offers the distinctive combination of a beautiful and historic campus, modern facilities and cutting-edge programs.
Since becoming an NCAA Division I member in 1991-92, CofC has enjoyed postseason athletics success among its 21-varsity sports teams including non-sponsored CAA sports in coed and women’s sailing, sand volleyball and equestrian. The men’s basketball team has made four NCAA Tournament appearances while the baseball team has made five NCAA regional appearances, including a Super Regional in 2006. CofC’s volleyball team has reached the NCAA Tournament seven times, the women’s tennis team has garnered six NCAA appearances, and the men’s soccer team has made five NCAA trips. On the golf course, the women’s team has four NCAA regional appearances and the men’s team has reached three NCAA regionals, including a national championship berth in 2001. The CofC men’s tennis team has made a pair of NCAA appearances and the softball squad reached an NCAA regional in 2005.
The Cougars have also had several NCAA individual qualifiers in women’s cross country, women’s track and field, men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s tennis.
