RICHMOND, Va. (February 15, 2012) – UNCW sophomore Rafael Aita (Lima, Peru) and the William & Mary duo of sophomore John Banks (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior Jacob Braig (Williamsburg, Va.) earned men’s tennis honors from the Colonial Athletic Association for the week ending February 12.

Aita was selected as the CAA men’s tennis Player of the Week after opening the spring season with a 6-0 record at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions for the 46th-ranked Seahawks. Aita upset 16th-ranked Daniel Nguyen of top-ranked Southern California, 7-5, 6-2, at the ITA’s Kick-off Weekend in Los Angeles. He also rolled past Augie Bloom of No. 70 Princeton, 6-2, 6-1. Aita has helped lead UNCW to a 5-1 team record that includes wins over #45 South Florida and #70 Princeton. The Seahawks’ only loss was to #1 USC.

Banks and Braig were honored as the CAA doubles team of the week. Playing together for the first time this season, the Tribe tandem defeated Vikram Hundal and Juan Melian of 29th-ranked Georgia Tech, 8-6, at the No. 2 doubles position. Banks and Braig moved up to the No. 1 doubles slot against 4th-ranked Georgia, but suffered an 8-3 setback to Sadio Doumbia and Hernus Pieters.
