Hempstead, N.Y. - Hofstra senior pitcher/designated player Olivia Galati was selected to the watch list for the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, the Amateur Softball Association of America and USA Softball announced today.

Galati was one of just 50 players elected for the watch list, joining a list of exceptional players such as 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Keilani Ricketts from Oklahoma. The inclusion marks the second straight season Galati was named to the preseason watch list.

Galati was one of 27 seniors on the list. There were 15 juniors and eight sophomores to round out the field. The West Babylon, N.Y. native was the only player from a Colonial Athletic Association-member school added to the watch list.

Galati won the Division I ERA crown at 0.95 last season, becoming the program's only first-team All-America selection. As one of just two pitchers who allowed less than one earned run per seven innings, Galati posted a 34-7 ledger with 378 strikeouts against just 26 walks in 280 2/3 innings. Her 32-game winning streak that stretched from March 17-May 25 finished one off the NCAA record.

Named to the All-CAA first team at two different positions, as well as a NFCA All-Region selection, Galati also batted .345 with 37 RBIs and 35 runs scored in 54 games. As a pitcher, Galati allowed just 38 earned runs, which means her RBI production nearly matched what she gave up as a pitcher despite logging 48 appearances and 38 complete games.

The Top 25 Finalists for the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced April 10. While an athlete does not have to be on the watch list to be considered for the Top-25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top-25 finalists.

The Top-10 finalists will be announced May 8 and the Top-3 finalists will be announced May 22. On May 28 prior to the start of the 2013 NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City, the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed.
