Softball Weekly Honors - April 15
CAA SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Becca Bigler • Hofstra | Bainbridge, Pa./Elizabethtown, Sr., Infielder
Bigler earned CAA Player of the Week honors after hitting two home runs and recording eight RBI in Hofstra’s three-game conference sweep of Delaware. The senior infielder went 4-for-6 at the plate with a .667 batting average, while scoring two runs and posting a .625 on-base percentage. Bigler hit a grand slam in the series opener against the Blue Hens, and smashed a three-run home run in the series finale to help compile a 1.667 slugging percentage. The Bainbridge, Pa., native ranks second on the team in home runs (10) and RBI (31) this season.
CAA SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Heather Kiefer • James Madison | Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls, So., Pitcher
Kiefer was selected as CAA Pitcher of the Week after finishing 2-1 with a 0.00 ERA in 16.2 innings last week. The Potomac Falls, Va., native made three starts in the circle for JMU and helped the Dukes to a 4-1 record. Kiefer did not allow an earned run and limited her opponents to 12 hits, while allowing just one walk and fanning eight. The sophomore right-hander is 5-0 with a 0.20 ERA in CAA play while limiting her opponents to just one earned run on 17 hits and three walks in 34.2 innings.
CAA SOFTBALL ROOKIES OF THE WEEK:
Caryn Bailey • Hofstra | Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area, Fr., Right Fielder
Bailey received CAA Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season after batting .778 in the three Hofstra victories over Delaware. The freshman rightfielder went 7-for-9 at the plate with two runs scored, five RBI, two home runs, and five extra base hits. She mastered two home runs in back-to-back innings in the victory over the Blue Hens in the finale to help compile a 1.778 slugging percentage. Bailey leads the Pride in batting average (.414), RBI (33), and total bases (89) during her rookie campaign.
Jailyn Ford • James Madison | Hot Springs, Va./Bath County, Fr., Pitcher/First Baseman
Ford tallied her forth CAA Rookie of the Week award this season after helping JMU to a 4-1 record last week at the plate and in the circle. The Hot Springs, Va., native hit .636 (7-11) with two doubles, two home runs, six runs scored, and three RBI. Ford set a JMU freshman record with her 11th home run of the season the series finale of the Dukes sweep of George Mason. In the circle, Ford went 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA. She tossed a pair of complete game and struck out 11 batters in 14 innings pitched.
