Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University junior pitcher/designated player Olivia Galati, who capped her brilliant junior campaign by leading the Hofstra Softball program to the NCAA Super Regionals, earned the highest honor of her stellar career today when she was named a first team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Galati is Hofstra's first-ever first team All-American and just the fifth in the prestigious history of the Hofstra Softball program.  Galati earned first team honors as an at-large/pitcher selection.

The Pride's other NFCA All-Americans are: Crystal Boyd (second team in 1993, third team in 1994), Alicia Smith (second team in 2000), Lisa Ciavardini (third team in 2000) and Amanda Hallaway (third team in 2003).

Hofstra finished this season with a record of 42-15 after advancing to the Super Regionals.
The third-year player from West Babylon, NY led a talented Hofstra squad into the Super Regionals for the first time in program history after the Pride won the NCAA Los Angeles Regional with a perfect 3-0 record with wins over No. 12-seed UCLA and two wins over San Diego State.  Hofstra's amazing season came to an end in the best-of-three Super Regional series against No. 19 South Florida as the Pride dropped the decisive third game, 2-1, to fall one win short of a berth in the Women's College World Series.

Galati compiled a 34-7 record this season and she currently ranks second in the NCAA with an 0.95 earned run average.  She is one of only three players nationally to have a sub-1.00 earned run average.

Galati, who was the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Pitcher of the Year and was a first team all-conference selection at both pitcher and designated player, compiled 378 strikeouts in 2012 to bring her career total to a program record 1,018.  Her 34 wins in 2012 are also a program record and her streak of 32 wins in a row this season fell one win shy of the NCAA single season record.  She leads the nation with 17 shutouts and ranks second in walks allowed per seven innings and fifth in hits allowed per seven innings.  Her 378 strikeouts ranks fourth nationally.

One of the Pride's top hitters as well, Galati was second on the team with a .345 batting average and had four home runs and 37 runs batted in.  She was second on the team in batting average.  Galati scored 35 runs and had 58 hits and 11 doubles.
