CAA Puts 4 On Preseason Baseball All-America Team
RICHMOND, Va. (December 19, 2013) – Four CAA players were selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) preseason All-America baseball team.
Towson senior designated hitter Kurt Wertz was named to the second team, while William & Mary senior first baseman Michael Katz, W&M senior second baseman Ryan Lindemuth and James Madison junior outfielder Chad Carroll were chosen to the third team.
Wertz received third-team NCBWA All-America and first-team All-East Region and All-CAA accolades in 2013 after batting .338 with 13 home runs and 65 RBI’s. His RBI total topped the CAA and was the fourth-highest single-season total in school history. Wertz also had seven triples, 14 doubles and 43 runs scored.
Katz batted a team-best .358 with 23 doubles, a triple and 47 RBI’s for W&M last season. He was named to the All-East Region second team and the All-CAA third team.
Lindemuth earned a spot on the All-East Region and All-CAA second teams in 2013. He batted .351 with 14 doubles, two triples, four homers and a team-high 49 RBI’s.
Carroll garnered first-team All-CAA and second-team All-East Region honors last season. He led the Dukes with a .389 batting average with 14 doubles, a league-high eight triples, three homers and 55 RBI. He also stole 21 bases in 24 attempts.
The CAA is coming off its best baseball season in more than a decade as three teams – Towson, UNCW and William & Mary - earned berths in the NCAA Baseball Championship. The league will be enhanced this season by the addition of traditional power College of Charleston.
