Hempstead, NY - Hofstra senior first baseman Jared Hammer has been named a Preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) as the organization released its 13th annual preseason selections today. Hammer, a native of Flemington, NJ, was named to the second team.

The only Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) player named to any of the three teams, Hammer is coming off a season in which he batted .376 with 18 doubles, four home runs and 66 RBIs. He also added 47 runs, 12 steals and committed just two errors in 468 chances for a .996 fielding percentage. His 66 RBIs led the team and the CAA and also ranked 12th in the nation. He was also fourth in the nation in RBIs per game (1.20), 28th in on-base percentage (.479) and 42nd in batting (.376).

Hammer was a first team All-CAA selection in 2012 and also earned American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-East Region accolades. He helped Hofstra to a school record 34 wins (34-22) and a berth in the CAA Championship last season.
Hofstra opens the 2013 season February 15 at Oklahoma.
