UNCW's Molinaro Named Preseason All-America
WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Senior outfielder Tyler Molinaro, who led the Colonial Athletic Association with 16 home runs in 2012, has been named third-team preseason All-America by Louisville Slugger.
Molinaro became the fourth Seahawk all-time and first since 2010 to lead the league in round trippers. He earned third-team All-CAA honors in 2012 and also earned a spot on the league's all-tournament squad. The Seahawks claimed the 2012 title, their first since 2006, with a 10-8 win over Delaware in Harrisonburg, Va.
In 2012, Molinaro ranked 15th nationally with his 16 round trippers as the Seahawks finished 11th in the NCAA with 56 homers. In conference play, he belted a team-high nine homers.
Earlier in the week, UNCW was in Collegiate Baseball's also receiving votes section of the publication's preseason poll. Joining the Seahawks in the also receiving votes were conference rivals Hofstra and James Madison.
UNCW will take on six opponents in the top-40, including No. 2 UNC Chapel Hill, No. 11 NC State, No.12 San Diego, No. 34 Kent State, No. 37 East Carolina and No. 38 Coastal Carolina. Including those also receiving votes, UNCW will play 11 schools.
The defending CAA Champion Seahawks open their season on Feb. 15 against Kent State, who reached the College World Series in 2012.
