RICHMOND, Va. (March 26, 2013) – The CAA has honored six men’s and women’s tennis players for outstanding performances last week.

Recognized on the women’s side were William & Mary junior Jeltje Loomans (Houten, The Netherlands) and the James Madison tandem of senior Megan Douglass (Wilton, Conn.) and Ruxandra Andriescu (Brampton, Ontario).

Beneck was named the CAA men’s tennis Player of the Week after posting a pair of wins at No. 1 singles in the Blue Hens’ victories over Lafayette and Mount St. Mary’s last week. The junior defeated Lafayette’s Brandon Goldstein, 6-4, 6-2, and beat Mount’s Matt Blake, 6-3, 6-2. Beneck is 15-5 at the No. 1 singles slot this season and has a 17-7 overall mark.

Chaffee and Andersson were honored as the CAA men’s Doubles Team of the Week after going 2-0 at the No. 1 doubles position in W&M’s matches with 22nd-ranked Notre Dame and Morgan State. The Tribe tandem won the final three games and rallied for a 9-7 victory over Notre Dame’s Greg Andrews and Spencer Talmadge, who have been ranked as high as #51 nationally this season. They also rolled past Morgan State’s Duk Young Park and Eric Ward, 8-2, for their third win in the past four matches.

Loomans was selected as the CAA women’s tennis Player of the Week after recording two wins at No. 3 singles in W&M’s road matches at 29th-ranked Rice and Houston. The junior outlasted Rice’s Liat Zimmerman, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 and then knocked off Houston’s Martin Fernandez, 6-3, 6-3. Loomans improved to 10-8 overall and 9-6 in dual match competition.

Partnering for the first time this season, the tandem defeated UMBC’s Isabel Aldunate and Madlena Kurasz, 8-6. Douglass also picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over UMBC’s Shannon Cleary in singles.
