Softball Weekly Honors - Feb. 26
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Erica Field • James Madison
Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park, Fr., Third Baseman / Catcher
Field collected CAA Softball Player of the Week honors and was named to the NFCA All-Tournament team after hitting .533 during the five-game tournament as JMU posted a 3-2 mark. The freshman infielder/catcher added two doubles, two runs, a walk, three RBIs, and two steals while recording a hit in all five games during the weekend. Field, a Manassas, Va. native, has recorded a hit in all 10 games and is hitting a team-best .485 with 10 RBIs.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Kaitlyn Medlam • Georgia State
Bethleham, Ga./Apalachee H.S., Jr., Pitcher
Medlam earned Pitcher of the Week honors after finishing with a 1-1 record last week including a win at SEC foe Auburn. Medlam threw a complete game against the Tigers with just one earned run and six strikeouts. The junior right-hander appeared in three games over the weekend in the Phyliss Rafter Memorial and finished with a 2.16 ERA over 8.1 innings with five strikeouts. Medlam leads the team in most pitching categories including ERA (3.00), innings pitched (51.1), wins (4), and strikeouts (32).
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Jailyn Ford • James Madison
Hot Springs, Va./Bath County, Fr., Pitcher
Ford was honored as the CAA Softball Rookie of the Week after helping lead JMU to a 3-2 record at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with solid performances both in the circle and at the plate. In the circle, the rookie went 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and tossed a shutout in 9.1 innings pitched. In the Dukes 1-0 win over No. 14 USF, Ford tossed a shutout, giving up just two hits and fanned six in seven innings pitched. She faced just one over the minimum and never allowed a runner to advance past first base. At the plate, Ford recorded a hit in all five games, going 6-for-15 with three doubles, two runs, and three RBI and three stolen bases.
