Volleyball Weekly Honors - Sept. 23

Bacon contributed offensively and defensively in leading the Huskies to a 3-0 week. The senior, who was the 2012 CAA Player of the Year, registered 54 kills for a 4.50 kills per set average and also added 39 digs, an average of 3.25 per set. NU defeated Boston College, Harvard and St. John’s and Bacon had a double-double in all three matches. She had a career-high 24 kills against St. John’s.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Natalia Skiba • Northeastern
Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central, Jr., Libero
Skiba earned her second Defensive Player of the Week honor this season after being a force to reckon with as NU went 3-0. The junior totaled 77 digs for an eye-opening 6.42 digs per set average over the weekend. The Huskies extended their home winning streak to 22 straight games and have not lost on their home court since Sept. 30, 2011 versus Delaware.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Nicole Lott • UNCW
West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan, Fr., Outside Hitter
Lott, who also picked up rookie honors one week ago, helped the Seahawks to a 3-1 record and a tournament title at the Winthrop Invitational. The Pennsylvania product was named MVP for the tourney after averaging 3.30 kills per set and hitting .463 with just two attack errors over 67 attempts. She also contributed 36 digs for an average of 2.77 per set. She became the third UNCW player to earn MVP honors at a tournament this season.
