Wills Earns National VB Award
Sophomore outside hitter Kelsie Wills became the first player in program history to earn the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, when the organization announced her as the recipient this afternoon.
The Hofstra Volleyball program has been around since 1976 and has made six NCAA Tournament appearances.
Wills led the Pride to a perfect 4-0 record last week displaying a strong all-around game racking up a total of 90 kills, a .364 hitting percentage, 33 digs and 15 total blocks.
After nailing 17 kills in her first match against St. Francis, she followed that up with a career-high 27 kills with 15 digs in their five-set win over Siena.
The New Zealand native didn't let up in the following day's doubleheader, once again defeating St. Francis with 22 kills hitting .426 and adding another 10 digs. The sophomore continued her strong hitting against Princeton with 24 kills hitting at a .455 clip, finishing the week averaging six kills per set.
This honor marks the first ever Hofstra University player to receive the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award. The Pride is coached by Kristina Hernandez.
The AVCA honor is Wills' third player of the week award this week and fourth this season as she was the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week on August 27 and September 3 and earlier today she was named the Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) National Player of the Week as well.
