Binghamton’s Schiedel Named CAA Wrestler of the Week, ODU’s Mecate Named CAA Rookie of Week
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ-Nate Schiedel of Binghamton University is the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week and Chris Mecate of Old Dominion University is the CAA Rookie of the Week, for all competition January 8-14.
Schiedel, a senior 197 from Caledonia, NY (Caledonia Mumford), pinned both of his opponents at the Virginia Duals, from Virginia Tech and North Dakota State, sandwiched around a forfeit victory for a 3-0 weekend in Hampton.
Schiedel improved to 11-0 in duals, 18-2 overall and 109-30 for his career and is ranked sixth by InterMat, seventh by W.I.N. and eighth by Amateur Wrestling News.
Mecate, a freshman 141 from Highland, Calif. (Redlands East Valley), went 2-1 at his first Virginia Duals, with his only loss coming to the fourth ranked wrestler from Edinboro. Mecate improved to 27-7 on the season and is now ranked 17th by InterMat.
The CAA duals, hosted by George Mason, will take place January 19. New CAA rankings, along with updated records, will come out January 22.
