CAA Has 27 Wrestlers Scheduled To Compete at NCAA Championships

RICHMOND, Va. (March 14, 2012) -- The CAA has 27 wrestlers scheduled to compete at this week's 2012 NCAA Wrestling Championships, which will be held at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo. March 15-17. Old Dominion leads the way with seven wrestlers in the field, CAA champion Hofstra will have six representatives, while Binghamton will have five. Drexel will have a trio of representatives and Boston University, George Mason and Rider each will have two wrestlers competing.

Six CAA wrestlers were seeded when the brackets were announced. Hofstra junior Steve Bonanno (28-6) is seeded No. 12 at 125 pounds. Binghamton junior Donald Vinson (33-4) earns the fourth-seed in the 149 pound division. Binghamton teammate Justin Lister (26-5) is seeded-ninth at 157 pounds. Hofstra senior Paul Gillespie (28-5) is seeded No. 12 at 165 pounds. Old Dominion senior Te Edwards (21-3) is the No. 10 seed in the 174 class, while Hofstra senior Ben Clymer (29-6) is No. 11 in the 184 division.

Joining Bonanno, Gillespie and Clymer in the championship from Hofstra is sophomore Jamie Franco (21-11) at 133, sophomore Luke Vaith (23-8) at 141 and junior Justin Accordino (23-11) at 149 pounds.

Making the field from ODU are redshirt freshman Jerome Robinson (17-9) at 125, sophomore Scott Festejo (23-14) at 133, sophomore Justin LaValle (25-14) at 141, sophomore John Nicholson (26-6) in the 157 division, sophomore Tristan Warner (27-14) in the 165 pound weight class and Joe Budi (22-12) at 197.

Other participants from Binghamton include junior Nathan Schiedel (28-8) at 184, sophomore Cody Reed (23-16) at 197 and freshman Nick Gwiazdowski (25-6) in the heavyweight division.

Wrestlers from Drexel include junior Joe Booth (24-5) at 165, sophomore Brandon Palik (25-13) at 197 and senior Kyle Frey (26-6) in the heavyweight class.

Representing Boston University will be junior Kyle Czarnecki (23-11) at 174 and sophomore Kevin Innis (21-5) as a heavyweight. From George Mason is freshman Vince Rodriguez (18-9) at 125 and senior Bagna Tovuujav (20-3) at 197. Rounding out the CAA field from Rider is sophomore James Brundage (21-17) at 165 and junior Jim Resnick (18-4) at 174.
