William & Mary Wins 2013 Men's Cross Country Championship

Cockeysville, Md. (November 2, 2013) - William & Mary utilized a handful strong individual efforts to win the 2013 CAA Men's Cross Country Championship for the 14th straight season on Saturday at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md.

The Tribe had a total score of 25 points and placed six runners in the individual top 10, including second-place finisher Rad Gunzenhauser (24:46:56) and third-place finisher Trevor Sleight (25:05.17). Northeastern sophomore Weslesy Gallagher captured the Most Outstanding Performer award after a first-place finish on the 8K course with a time of 24:42.02.

The Huskies finished second as a team with 44 points. UNCW earned third place with 89 points, while conference newcomer College of Charleston and Hofstra followed at fourth (106) and fifth (115), respectively.

W&M took three of the top five individual spots for the third straight season thanks to Ryan Gousse’s fifth-place finish in 25:16.66. Also earning All-CAA honors for the Tribe were David Barney Jr., in sixth place (25:26.64), Nathanial Hermsmeier in ninth (25:49.87) and Joshua Mercado-Reigh, in 10th (25:54.73).

Northeastern had three runners earn All-CAA honors highlighted by Gallagher, junior Zach Krause (25:13.12), who finished third overall, and Zachary Fraielli’s seventh place finish (25:31.18). Also earning All-CAA honors were Hofstra senior Daniel Rono (25:42.69, ninth-place) William & Mary freshman Faris Sakallah (25:57.50, 11th) and College of Charleston junior Adam Seften (26:05.17, 12th).

Many CAA squads look to return to the course next at the NCAA Regionals on Friday, Nov. 15.
