W&M Women's XC Team Ranked #16 Nationally

RICHMOND, Va. (August 27, 2013) – The William & Mary women’s cross country team is ranked #16 in the nation in the preseason USTFCCCA NCAA Division I national cross country rankings that were released on August 27. In addition, one other women’s and two men’s teams from the CAA are listed in the USTFCCCA’s regional cross country rankings that were posted on August 26.

On the women’s side, William & Mary is ranked #2 in the Southeast Region along with its #16 national ranking. The Tribe captured their eighth CAA title in the past decade in 2012 and went on to post a 21st place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championship. W&M welcomes back a pair of All-America standouts in senior Elaina Balouris and sophomore Emily Stites. The Tribe trails only top-ranked Duke in the preseason poll.

The Delaware women’s team is ranked 13th in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Blue Hens placed third at the 2012 CAA Championship and return seniors Lindsay Prettyman and Michele Lambert, who both finished in the top 20 individually at the event.

In the men’s rankings, William & Mary is listed #9 in the Southeast Region. The Tribe claimed their 13th consecutive CAA championship in 2012 and went on place 8th at the NCAA Southeast Regional. W&M returns a pair of All-CAA performers in redshirt juniors Rad Gunzenhauser and Joshua Mercado.

Northeastern is ranked #10 in the Northeast Region. The Huskies placed third at the 2012 CAA Championship and welcome back all-conference performer Stephen Sollowin. NU will also be bolstered by the return of Eric Jenkins, who won the CAA individual title in 2011 before red-shirting a year ago.
