JMU CAPTURES SECOND STRAIGHT CAA WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

HAMPTON, Ga. (Oct. 29, 2011) – James Madison placed three runners in the top six individual spots and captured its second straight CAA Women’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning at Nash Farm Battlefield in Hampton, Ga.. JMU concluded the competition with 32 points, which was 13 points ahead of second-place William & Mary (45 points).

Georgia State finished third with 89 points, followed by Towson, Delaware, UNCW, George Mason, Northeastern, Hofstra and VCU.

James Madison junior Katie Harman completed the six-kilometer course in a time of 21:18 to capture the individual title and Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet honors. William & Mary’s Elaina Balouris took runner-up honors in a time of 21:43. JMU’s Stacey Nobles placed third in 22:09, while Jess Cygan of William & Mary was fourth with a time of 22:21. Towson’s Kaylin Gilmartin-Donohue rounded out the top-five with a time of 22:22.

Other women’s runners earning All-CAA status this year include: Jessica Zozos, JMU (22:26); Katie Odgen, Towson (22:38); Michelle Britto, W&M (22:42); Hannah Stefanoff, GSU (22:50); Kristen Landry, JMU (22:51); Katharine Showalter, GSU (22:54); Katie Gorman, JMU (23:01)

With the conference race now at a close, next up for the CAA squads are the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 12.
