EUGENE, Ore. (June 24, 2012) - George Mason's David Verburg competed in the finals of the 400 meters at the Olympic Team Trials on Sunday evening, but did not advance to the 2012 Olympics to be held later this summer in London.

Verburg, the CAA Championships Track Athlete of the Meet, started the race in lane one and crossed the finish line in a time of 45.36 to finish in seventh place. With only the top three finishers advancing, the United States will be represented by LaShawn Merrit (44.12), Tony McQuay (44.49) and Bryshon Nellum (44.80) in the event.

Verburg was one of only four collegiate athletes to compete in the eight man race.

Verburg will return to the track in two weeks, competing at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) U-23 Championships, held July 6-8 in Guanajuato, Mexico.
