Burke, Young Earn Weekly CAA Women's Swimming/Diving Honors -- Feb. 4
RICHMOND, Va. (February 4, 2014) – Towson senior Kaitlin Burke and Northeastern senior Candace Young earned CAA Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively, on Tuesday.
Burke impressively won the weekly nod for the fifth time this season after competing well over the weekend in a split decision versus Penn State and Saint Bonaventure. The senior shined in her final regular season meet of her collegiate career, registering a solid time of 1:50.11 in the 200-yard free and following up that performance the next race by winning the 1,000-yard free with a time of 10:03.64.
Burke ended the regular season unbeaten in all individual events that she competed in.
Young finished her Huskies’ home career with a bang, capturing first-place honors on Senior Day versus Rhode Island in both the one- and three-meter dives. The Tappan, N.Y., native helped NU defeat Rhody and continue its most-recent success with a score of 286.20 in the 3-meter and 277.05 in the 1-meter. Young’s weekly honor is the second nod for the Huskies this season, after Anna Schegoleva earned recognition on Jan. 21.
The Tigers, like a few other schools around the league, are off until the CAA Championships, which will take place from Feb. 26-March 1, at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. Also around the league in women’s swimming action, Drexel freshman Rachel Bernhardt won the 100 and 200 breast versus Lehigh, while William & Mary stud junior Megan Howard won her 10th straight race with first-place showings in the 50 and 100 free versus East Carolina.
